Like to classify self as a keen Amateur, want to know what will be some ideal lens for photography of a wedding?... A friend is getting married in Christmas and I offered to do shoots for him. At the moment I have a 550D canon and 50mm and a 18-200mm and a canon 430exii . It is a Indian wedding indoors so lots of colours involved.... Any tips for a beginner of lens type of style I should take etc... I've been looking online at other peoples work for inspiration, but obviously they have gadgets that are way fancy and expensive than 550D and L series lens in their kitty.

It's really not all about the kit, not saying that top of the line stuff is not an advantage because that would be a out and out lie, if I were is your position I'd be considering something like the 17-55/2.8 and if budget allows then I'd consider something like a 24/1.4 or something around that kind of level

I guess the main question is though what have you a/ offered to do for your friend or more importantly what is your friend expecting, and b/ what experience do you have with your camera

Welcome to TP

As the above have stated a fast lens is definitely good so you don't have to use a flash all the time.

Personally I like a two body set up, it would be worth hiring/borowing a second body with something like a 70-200. If you do try and make it the same camera or a body you have used before so you are familiar with it and not learning how to use it on the day.

Remember long days mean you will need plenty of memory and spare batteries for anything

I would say alongside gear is find someone who is also looking to shoot a wedding, share experience and gear ;-)

I done my brother in laws a couple of months ago,i only used my 24-85 2.8,my biggest advice is get a list of pictures they want and do not be afraid to direct everyone to how you want them.

Indian weddings can be hard work. On top of the camera skills, you DO need to know what is going on. They tend to be longer, with a lot more people in attendance. Going with a couple of other photographers is the way forwards. I would always take a second shooter to a Asian wedding
