Steve.

I'm too far away to help you Steve but I suggest you put some work up online and contact photographers directly. Let them know you are interested in getting into wedding photography and ask them if they would be willing to meet up for a coffee and a chat.

Even if they seem reluctant but are willing to chat to you in person do it. If you come access well and friendly you have a better chance than if it seems like you just want to pick their brains to become competition.

you will get lots of knockbacks but stay friendly and stick at it and you'll find someone. Personalise each email with the photographers name and if possible mention something to let them know you've looked at their work and its not a made email sent out to everybody. Do a few every couple of days or you will get people who all know each other getting the same email at the same time.

Let them know that at first you don't expect to do much, if any shooting. That you have no desire to use any images you take to promote yourself, you just want the experience to see where you are and if its right for you.

Remember you will be a liability not an assets at first so you have to give people a reason to let you. That could be as simple as being a genuine nice guy and finding a confident photographer who wants to help you.

Good luck, I only started out earlier this year. It's a lot of work and there's a ton of competition out there.

BTW I was into photography for over 10 years, starting on film, before I decided to start charging for it and I learnt more in 6 months than the previous decade. Before then it didn't matter if I got the shot and I didn't realise just how little I was progressing. Jumping in at the deep end you sink or swim ;)
