Hi

I want to get out and about this year in the UK to start getting some good landscapes (I'm mainly portrait, architectural and landscape/ruins scenes).

I know I want to go to Dartmoor and Exmoor (As I used to lead groups for Duke of Edinburgh's Award down there), but fancy go a bit further afield now. I live in Norfolk so I'm itching to get back up to the Peak District and try the Lake District and Scotland.

However, this would need to probably be done in the form of long weekends so I'd like to know if there are any wesites giving locations of places that other people can recommend as good scenes to shoot?

Alternatively if some of the guys on here can recommend a few spots, maybe the best time of day to get the right shots and the names of a few places to stay nearby that would be great.

Recommendations don't just have to be natural landscapes but also ruined architecture (Castles, churches and priories, etc.) are all welcome.

Thanks
Richard

all depends on where you want to go really - check out tourist sites

If you are heading for Cornwall, I can point out lots of Tin mines, and assorted ruins

I was looking for something like this the other day. The best solution I found was to use flickr maps and search for areas you are looking to visit, then you can browse through shots taken from the area and possible hot spots.

I think google maps/picasa can do this as well, and tends to be a little more accurate but I haven't had a look at either for a while.

Thanks guys.

I've been looking at some tourist site but, with the exception of a couple, they don't seem to have enough on them to give me the names of the locations.

I have a Flickr Pro account so I'll take a look - I didn't know that was possible so I'll definitely be investigating that one!

And thanks Pete. I could also add Cornwall so if you have any mines in particular then I'd love to know which are the best ones to look at.

Thanks for all your help.

Myself and a friend found exactly the same problem and have started coded our own website to fill this "need". If anybody has any suggestions etc- let me know :)

some great places on Dartmoor.
Why not look a the sat maps on google
In Devon we have not only great moors but Two yes the only county to have Two coast. the Jurassic coast on teh south east Devon and then all the cliffs on both the most southerly tip ((look for East Prawle and the point I use to live here) and also the north coast which also have some good surfing beach. SO you See Devon has it all.

Hi Richard,

Not sure where you are located or where you're thinking of going but this site might be useful - www.freephotoguidesuk.blogspot.com/

There haven't been too many additions lately but it's a start.

HTH :)

Thanks Guys.

Steve - looks good - I've bookmarked that website.

Chazz - I love Dartmoor - I spent years training youngsters for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award down there. If anything I'd love to visit Shilly Pool again - If I could find it on the map!

Mark and Chazz - I never thought of looking at Google Earth. Off to download it now :)

Richard
