Website review

Hi Mark,

I think you have produced a nice clean site AND it validates for CSS and HTML too!

Personal preferences would be to brighten your logo and to probably not use all bold text, but its only my opinion.

Cheers,

OK - I know nothing about websites and couldnt create one to save my life, but here's my comments for what they are worth. All just personal views and I dare say there are many out there who would disagree.

It loads fast and is clear and precise. Your links to other pages in the site (words on the left) would be nicer spread out and perhaps on some form of shaded button in a larger style font?

The transition in your slide shows would be easier on the eye if they were all the same - something soft like wipe right? At the moment they distract from your photos.

But having said all that I think its 100 times better than I could have done!

Good luck with it:)

Nice and clean site, easy to navigate.

Not sure if it was just my connection tonight, or what. But for me the front page took ages to appear. After I got to that the following pages and images all worked nice and fast.

The layout was nice and simple to follow.. didn't try to slideshows this time.
But a nicely done website!!

Cooler than mine, which isn't hard. The only thing i'd try to adjust is the spacing between the menu options on the right (facing the screen, sorry).. they seem a tad bunched together on my browser. But hey, well done.

Thanks, i don't know how to change the spacong but that is a major thing i do not like,

anyone know joolma?

Good site. Only niggle is that the main text is a little small on my monitor and I find the font displeasing, though the latter is a question of taste.

Spelling mistakes on commission (commision), there should be two S's. Repeated a fair few times over the site. Spelling mistake also on information (infomation).

Try and keep the size of the text a little more uniform across the site too, headings seem to jump from size to size. I'd keep one size for headings, maybe another for sub-headings if you really need them and one for main text.

thanks,

will change the spelling mistakes,

It validates, but it's pretty bad in the terms of semantics, which makes all the validation success worth absolutely nothing. :/

Have a look on that: http://brainstormsandraves.com/articles/semantics/structure/

XHTML and CSS are cool, but they must be used wisely... And here you have table elements used for the layout of non-tabular data, no single h1 in place, div's used for elements which should be lists and paragraphs and so on... :)

Have a read, it will help you a lot! :)

Other than that, congratulations on your new website :)

Each menu item is inside a td so add to each of them height="10" for example.

So instead if reading <td><a href=....

It would read <td height="10><a href=....

Change the 10 to whatever height you want.

Or you could do it in CSS but it's your call!

youve lost me comletely, i would have no clue how to do it!,

100% confused over web design

You say:

I started off photographing boats as a hobby about a year ago and since then I have expanded my repertoire into other, more aesthetically satisfying, forms of photography. I am a Newbury based Photographer.

If I were you, I wouldn't say that I started boat photography as a hobby a year ago. That tells me you're relatively inexperienced at the job. In fact I wouldn't reference the hobby element at all. What does it add to your story?

Also, you are implying that although you will photograph boats, you'd rather be doing something more aesthetically satisfying, which won't go down very well with boating enthusiasts whom you seem to be targeting... if you're after catching a sailor, be passionate about sailing.
