Just in the process of finishing off my website and it's struck me, after looking through sample sites and the like, when it comes to gallery thumbnails, I'm not sure if the thumbs should be equal sizes (i.e. all square) or random, as in the actual image shape.

What's the general feeling?

Also, do we prefer white borders on images so they look like mounts, or just the image as it appears normally.

Here's an example of what I mean from the guy who won the Practical Photography POTY comp....

Personally, I like equal sizes but this eans cropping the image and possibly making it look abstract, maybe a little too abstract. I do like the white frames through, as I have a black background too.

I like the site in your post, borders around images maybe a bit narrower. but white borders on black really emphasises the images for me.

I agree

non standard size and white border on black background appeals to me

Superb shots and a nice looking site. I'd stick with what you have. As they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Some excellent work on that site, and I like the thick white borders (unusual for me, I usually prefer black)

Mart61, yourapocalypse, just reiterate, that's NOT my site, just an example to gauge response from forum members. That guy (Richard Crompton) is a great photographer and you can see why he scooped that award.

I think it is best to keep the aspect ratio, on the site you linked to I think it would look better if the white borders are 2/3s of the thickness though...
