I'm so confused!
I bought a domain name today, and pointed it to my existing site. Now it says it should take 10mins for it to be pointed, but that was 90mins ago and nothings happening.

When you click on http://www.chiccaphotography.com it should go to http://chiccaphotography.weebly.com but it does say if my DNS has recently been updated it could take 24 hours.

What's a DNS?

Its takes at least 24 hrs propogate to everyone.. over that 24 hrs each service providor will update... some will get it within an hr and some in 24 hrs... have patience :)

dedicated name servers or something, it is basically the system that sort of points domain names to the right place (as far as I understand it). It has never taken 24 hours for any changed to go through the system for me, but it can take a good few hours easily.

BTW it didnt go when i typed the above.. it goes to weebly now :) for me on sky broadband

Unless it's AOL in the USA, in which case it can take weeks!

DNS = Domain Name System and yes it's the system by which computers translate a domain name i.e. "www.yoursite.com" into an IP address (123.123.123.123) and thus the server hosting the site.

works fine for me :)
would be nice if you selected the option to keep the domain the same rather than the redirected url :)

Do you not have an option to set name servers? this would point your name directly to the hosted website and keep your new domain name in the address bar.

You'd also need your host to configure a host header record to accept this. Otherwise the domain will be pointing at a server which has no understanding of what it's supposed to do with the traffic!

Works fine for me :) If you can (I know I can with my 123 reg domain) try and look for an option that will keep your domain name in the address bar, instead of the hosting address...it just makes it that little more professional :)

edit - beaten to it!
