Morning,

I've made a start on building a website. I initially tried a free template but ended up spending a few quid on a ready done one. I’ve only added a few photographs just while I’m testing and developing the site. I’m not a coder and have only managed a few tweaks to the layout through using firebug and changing values in the css sheet.

I would appreciate a bit of feedback on what works and what doesn’t and what I may need to add or not.

Pages as they stand

Home page – A selection of images to be added and as a flow gallery

Gallery – Brief opening intro to be added to main page

(Sub) - Shipley – Is a flow, looks nice but I’m not sure, I have tried a column on the other gallery.
(Sub) - B&W – Is a column gallery, allows for description at side, maybe looks a bit less tacky?

Who am I ? – I will be adding a short description about me, my likes and influences, plus a photograph.

Purchasing - I will add information relating to printing, sizes, paper and cost at a later date.

Contact - I want to add a little more contrast for the contact page.

It may run a little slow at times due to me using free hosting, which isn’t a problem whilst I'm building.

That looks good to me, the mouse wheel image scrolling is a nice touch.

Simple and effective - just what I like to see on a photography website. ;)

Does need more pics though... :D

Thanks, once its fine tuned I shall add to the content, I have a few gallery sections ready to go.

For me also its miles to big, also I would just have your best shot on the front page rather than the scrolling thingy just so its centred, maybe think about a good logo and rethink your menu titles ie Gallery, Shop, About, Contact in that order

I can't view it on my iPhone.
Simple websites work best for photographers.
Black and white sites always work best, so your photos stand out more.

Just to let you know have you looked into Wordpress? It's free and easy to set up, You can update your site very quick with no coding, just upload your images. Also lots of free templates and plugins what you can edit easy.

Responsive sites are best. They resize your photos and layout for different phones and tablets. As I'm finding out more people are viewing my sites on hand held devices than computers.

I like the simplicity and the fonts. You may want to change your page titles to something more descriptive.
Also when trying to scroll through the pictures on the shipley park page, i can't scroll through a picture at a time.

Some changes.

Singe image now on front page (yet to make a final decision on which to use, looking into getting it larger)

Sub menu now doesnt have a black line on bottom

I think I am going to go for all galleries in the format of the black and white gallery.

menu headings changed

I think the menu headings needs to be further over to the right.
 
I've just tried to open this and no image appears on the front page (Firefox, Windows XP - not my computer!). Just say's loading towards the bottom.
 
Hi Ben.
I like the clean look, but the first page, to my mind, would work better with a slideshow (look up wow slider to see what I mean).
Personally, I dislike sideways scrolling pictures, and I feel the bw gallery looks awkward. Lightbox is an easier way to work that.
When you click on your nav and go to a page, you get a 'breadcrumb' page name under the logo, but its in a different font. I'd keep it to the same font as the nav and the rest of the page. Too many fonts look amateurish.

Trouble with buying templates is unless you have some understanding of what's been built its hard to customize. There is an awful lot of scripts going on on the home page, considering its just a logo, a small 'rollover' gallery, one pic and a footer. I'd have thought you could have achieved that with far less coding, and the coding has no 'meat' for google.

Contrary to popular belief, right click is used for things other than stealing images. Having an alert box pop up and effectively accuse a visitor of being a thief may be counter productive in the long term.

Not withstanding the fact that it is a pointless technique, it took about 5 seconds to establish that this was the path to the image that you were trying to protect.

On a positive note, I do like your minimalist approach, simple, clean and ad free.

Not only that, but its easily over-rode by a printscreen on a PC or just grab the image and drop onto the mac desktop. Pointless.
