This Peregrine webcam on Norwich cathedral is transmitting Radio Five Live. I've Emailed one of the Watch team and she's aware and she says that it's been like that since they activated it this season but none of them know why. There's an electrical hum with it too. Anyone have any ideas ?

Better hearing than me John .., can't hear anything even with laptop volume on 100%

Strange. I tried it on another computer and my iPad and all transmit. The speech is very low volume,Roger. The hum moderate. The speech is loud enough for me to hea the conversation,ie what it's about, it with my ear to the speaker but away from the external speakers I just hear voices.

I see a parent has just brought in a pigeon..

They could try adding some Ferrite rings to the camera feed, one at each end. Thats like the bump in your keyboard cable. Chances are there's a poor earth connection somewhere and the cable feeding the signal back for the camera is acting like an antenna.

Stick a few of the following on the cable. A couple near the camera and a couple near the feed into the recorder.

10pcs Clip-on Ferrite Ring Core RFI EMI Noise Suppressor High-frequency Filter Bead Cable Clips Anti-interference for USB Data Loudspeaker Cable (7 mm inner diameter)

its a radio broadcast, I suspect the antenna for the radio station is located on the tower.

Good point. That's often the case .You'd think someone in the Watch team would have been aware of that.

Thanks, both. I'll pass this information to my friend along with your link,Chris.

I'm an ex Radio Ham, unfortunately I know to my cost what ways there are to stop interference. My neighbours VU meters on his stereo ( remember those LOL ) used to go mental when I started to transmit. The DTI came and checked my setup and told him it was his problem. Being the nice guy I fitted a few filters and ferrite beads and sorted it for him.

Firstly, a very nice webcam peregrine family :)

I can very faintly hear voice with vol 100% on phone and held to my ear.

In old school terms such interference reminds of such as "co-channel", "crosstalk" , "harmonic" interference. Even in those purely analogue days it could be very hard to pin down the cause.

Based on the volume level I had to set combined with holding my ear closely..... hopefully considered a low grade issue?

I'm not familiar with those old school terms.

It's a great webcam to watch (Infrared at night as now)and there's no need to have the volume activated. I've never heard the chicks nor the parents. I have this one and the one, also peregrines, at Cromer on my screen all the time but when I posted the Cromer one on here it came back as no access but I have it here on my screen now. Whilst doing something else on this iMac I can see out of the corner of my eye a parent return with, generally pigeons but towards dusk i last night it was two song birds..migrating maybe ? Infact, a parent at Cromer has just brought in a bird as I type.

Here's the Cromer one again if you want to try.The chicks (3) were bundled up for warmth until supper arrived just now. Maybe google it if this link still fails.

Hopefully I won't get a comment as it's a technology thread. BUT...whilst we're on webcams..in the week I was watching the osprey webcam at Loch Arkaig on my iPad sitting on the settee in the living room. I closed it to watch the news. I forgot about it. I went to the kitchen and returned to hear chirping and thought there was a bird in the living room that had maybe come in through the open patio doors in the dining room so I searched behind the settee, the armchairs, the drawn back curtains.,the Hi-Fi unit to no avail. I called my wife to help and she searched then the penny dropped..it was the Osprey on the closed iPad.
