Week 3 - Style
Once again with time running out I turned to my trusty Montblanc pens for modelling material.
The reflective surfaces, black shiny body, black leather and textured paper made lighting a nightmare. I ended up shooting a flash up into a white brolly above the pen, and also fired a flash on 1/128 power from camera right.
I opened up the lens to have a shallow depth of field focused on the montblanc star on the nib.
I have posted two versions, not sure which I like best. Hope this isn't against the rules.

Hi Adie

couldn't find your week 1+2 shots? but then there are a fair amount to search through!
Personnaly I prefer the 1st of your 2 shots ,not really sure why ,think it's because the nib is more the focus point . Having said that the 2nd shot seems to have a creamier hue to it making it seem warmer ? Not sure that makes sense but hope you understand what I'm getting at :help:
Beautiful pen & getting a few of the words in focus finish's the shot nicely

Great stuff

Hi Adie,

Number 1 for me, just because of the colours in the nib are a lot colder which seems a bit more fitting. The 2nd I think you caught some reflections as its got a warm tinge to it. The only bit I'm not sure of is the montblanc star emblem on the casing - I think its a bit of a distraction very close to the main focal point (the nib).

I prefer the lighting on no 1 as well :)
lovely DoF and interesting subject
well done :)

Picture number one for me - the way that the pen is positioned just works, and the lighting is perfect, that shot oozes style to me

First pen one for me as well, just looks wrong the other way round; if your writing you'd expect to see it this way, never the other. Nice sharpeness on this, just enough DoF

Agree with all of Caleb (cw318is). Perhaps if the pen was rotated clockwise a few degrees to keep the nib away from the case button, or EVEN better, give it a quick clone out!

I like these shots as they are... I'm drawn more to the second image however

thanks for your comments. I agree about the nib being too close to the case's star. It's amazing how you don't spot this stuff in camera! Oh well, it's a learning curve. LOL

Hiya,

Once again a great take on the theme, and actually I had photographed something similar for this theme, but took a totally different approach.

Both images are well executed.

I think by having separate threads I may have probs keeping up with where you are at, but I will try to visit each.

Cheers

Dawn :)
