Different cameras output at different sizes, so rather than trying to set values for both axes, the best thing for consistency is to pick either the long or short side and resize only that - the other axis will automatically stay in proportion.
I usually resize to 900 pixels on the short side as many web hosts specify that's the largest they'll take unless you subscribe for larger file sizes.

I think 1024 (long edge) is the maximum for this forum....but I always have to reduce to about 800 as the kb count is still a bit too big...can't remember that figure!

I usually resizi to 1024 and set the file size limit at 450kb.
For the OP, images need to be large enough to help the buyer select them but not so big that they can download and remove the watermark to get the print they want. M feeling is 1024 is a bit small, and 1200 or 1400 is a better size.
