Web name hosting / DNS etc

Ok peoples.....

I have 3 current web sites, two of which have .co.uk and one with .com postfixes. I will be wanting another .co.uk and the corresponding .com addresses shortly giving me 5 web addresses.

1&1 Hosting will do these at £2.99 each for the .co.uk and £4.99 for the .com per year.

I am buying a virtual web server as from later today hopefully.....

So first job will be the new site with it's .co.uk & .com addresses and these will go straight onto the new server. Then the other 3 will be moved there either as soon as I can or at least by their due dates which are FEB for 2 of them and JULY for 1.

So with my own virtual server I simply need the cheap DNS jobby, where is cheapest for this? For these 5 or even 6 sites.....

Beware of the cheapest options. Some places lure you in with great prices, and once signed up you realise you have to pay to do this, do that, and do whatever else.

I'm sure there's some genuinely good deals out there, but personally I'd go with 123 Reg. Plenty of control to do whatever you want and no hidden charges.

As someone who offers web hosting etc... i would say stay well clear of 1and1 and their hosting. I could point you in the direction of a forums about web hosting and all you have to do is ask about 1and1 there and will get poor reviews about them. As they have their own custom control panel it would be hard for you to get support from outside 1and1.

To get your domains id also say go for 123-reg.co.uk. Also do you have experience for a VPS? is their VPS managed or unmanaged?

I have a few domains with 123 and they have all you need to control your domains - the bulk of my domains are with Enom and they are superb but I have a resellers package which makes pricing and use extremely friendly.

I have my domains with NameCheap! Full control over everything plus Free SSL when you register.

I have my VPS with FutureHosting, a forum will get you a good discount, pm for details on it. VPS is based in London!

Never ever have domains + hosting with the same company! Cause if the company ******s off you've lost hosting and domains.

I have used 1&1 in the past and have 1 domain registered with them that costs me £2.99 every year. For simple domain redirecting they are fine but I am always happy to find someone better.

I run a Linux server at home (although I am switching to MacOS Server now) I think I will be fine with the VPS

Well as you offer web hosting how much is a good price for a simple domain name holding/DNS/redirecting service per domain and should it be the same price for .com and .co.uk domains?
