Yes
I'm heading off toward Ben Lui at the weekend and I'm trying to divine whether I'll be able to see the peak from the surrounding area.

The mountain is 1100m tall, the glen I thinking off is at 250m. Met check currently has the cloud base at 300m with 40% coverage.

With those parameters what would I expect to see?

The most important parameter here is the 40% coverage. Clouds may be very
spectacular when there is enough light to draw, contour them!

That live cam shows Ben More (3843 ft) at Crianlarich. That's about 7 miles south of Ben Lui. There are webcams at Tyndrum, but they point down towards the road.
Wx and visibility look good just now.
The lower of the two webcams on the link shows Ben Challum straight ahead and the Tyndrum hills to the left.

Good chance you will see the all of Ben Lui some of the time when you go. Bear in mind that large hills have an influence on the weather and clouds often hang about the summits when all else is clear. You always need a bit of luck.

I take it that you will be walking/cycling up the Cononish Glen (nice little river). Morning light should be most favourable.

Go for it (y)

I agree in the right circumstances I'd rather be in the 30-60% coverage range, bright blue skies do nothing for B&W film. My real concern is that nearly half the sky between me and the subject are covered with said cloud.

Cheers. Yeah the plan is to wander down that glen in the morning and have a look at the fall in Glen Orchy in the evening. Forecast does look pretty good just now but 4 days is long time in Highland weather.

On some days 4 minutes is a long time in Highland weather. Be careful at the falls. I had a friend who dropped his Olympus SLR into the Falls pool in the 1970's.

The nice thing about the weather, if yo don't like some more will be along in a minute!!

Sunday has gone down hill (Detail shots only by the looks of it.), but hopefully tomorrow should be true to forecast.

Yes, and the days where the weather changes rapidly are the ones very likely to produce dramatic lighting (short lived usually).

Dramatic light, followed shortly by a scramble to get the camera in waterproof. Moments later soaked to the skin. Good fun.

Figures, it's properly dark up here but I'm too tired to go find somewhere to set up the camera to get some nice night shots. Clouding over tomorrow...

Might head down glen coe tomorrow after Ben Lui and get the falls on Sunday, the overcast weather will probably work for me.
