Evening all, I've done some editing for someone and I've stuck them into a shared/public album in Lightroom. I want to add a watermark to them just incase they want to download the images instead of paying. How or can it be done? I know the standard way, when you export the images to folder ready for printing etc. Thanks in advance

Adding a watermark would not stop them downloading them, and unless it is large and smack bang in the middle it could probably be either cropped or cloned out.

Can you actually download from a public collection (album) in Lightroom?

At least it’s an option isn’t it?

Of course, but then they would have my ugly WM on it ha

Yes you can. There's also an option what allows them to download it at a higher res too but you need to "select" it

I surmise this is LR CC..... so this is just a thought as I don't use CC

But is the Album like a folder i.e. destination for the exported files, if so then does CC have the watermark on export feature like in LR V6.

Having said that if you have uploaded them already I hope you have not yet provided the client the link..........???

Lightroom CC and no I haven't yet provided the client the link yet. I'm trying to figure out if I can add a water mark first

Can you post one on here with your watermark. As I said, unless it is big and all over the image then it is usually pretty easy to remove them.

It’s literally just my name. Nothing fancy yet until I can get hold of some square graphed paper to create my own one and upload it. Do you know if it can be done?

Is this not too old discussion thread is anything to go by LR CC does not have watermarking but LR Classic CC does........................indeed I googled the subject and could only find ref to doing so in LR Classic CC even though my search criteria was for CC only.

Discussion thread here https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/watermarks-in-lr-cc speed reading the posts it is as you ask wanted/needed by many folk but so far (at the time that thread was posted on) not available in CC

I've got around it, I added the water mark, exported to desktop. Re-added to Lightroom and then put in a collection, make public. Boom, done. Where there's a will there's a way. Could of been made more simple if LR allowed it, but hey ho

It still depends on what your watermark actually looks like when applied as to whether they can nick them, and easily use them, without your approval.

No matter what, they can download them without your permission, or even just screen grab them.

Why do you keep avoiding answering the question as to what your watermark looks like when applied?

Because it’s literally my name. I’ll upload a picture, but my question was “can it be done” them downloading it isn’t an issue. Because the pictures will have my name on it

Or if you’re after this answer “It takes up the lower third of the image” and almost the width

But you were also saying why you wanted to do this - "I want to add a watermark to them just incase they want to download the images instead of paying."

All I'm saying is that a watermark will not stop them doing that if they want to. If they do download them them it depends on how your watermark is displayed. If it is inconsequential then it would be easily either cropped out or cloned. If it is slap bang in the middle then it could be a little harder to get rid of. That is why I asked if you would give us an example of it.

If you don't want to show us then that is your choice but if you do then you may get some advice on how to do it better to mitigate any chance of them wanting to use them.
