Hi,

I'm thinking of sone industrial areas in norwich as the setting.

Basically i need to soure an interesting car..

Any ideas??

Thanks

Contact a car club of your choice of car and turn up at one of their regular meets. If you send the owners images you will probably get as much cooperation as you want.

What car? You can't just shoot any car, anywhere. Well.. you can if you want, but think of the context, think of the character of the car. Find the car first, then find a location... one that fits the car.

If it's a lowered, modified hatchback, then yeah, maybe an industrial estate, but what if you manage to source a classic Lamborghini, why shoot THAT on an industrial estate?

I agree with above.. car clubs are the answer. Most will want to show off their cars, especially if they get copies of the pics. I get this all the time with my Mustangs, and I'm more than happy to do it, but expect people to have strict conditions. Most will NOT want models draped over their car, and will probably be fussy about who gets in the car, especially if you're wearing jeans with studs in, or have any sharp objects about your person. Most will be paranoid about anyone touching their cars as well, as marks need to be wiped off, and wiping paint can damage paint. With classic or prize winning cars, expect most to not even take the car out of the garage if it's raining too... so if the weather looks dodgy on the day of your shoot, and you have a classic car lined up... expect a disappointing phone call.

industrial estates can be ok for cars but they are pretty much done to death and there is usually a lot of clutter around. However, thats not to say you can't use one.

unless you have previous work with other cars, owners of "nice sports cars" may not want to spend a couple of hours getting some pics done with a newbie. Again, this may not be the case.

My advice would be to use a friends car to start with if you don't already have images to start with. a fancy car won't transform a badly composed image.

Totally agree with what the others have said. Owners of specialist cars usually have a ton of photographs of them already, often including professional images. So there is little incentive for them to give you a couple of hours of their time unless you can demonstrate some current expertise and/or ideas for concepts which might intrigue the owner.

As has been said, do you have some mates with interesting or stylish cars? That would be the best way to start.

The most prolific car club is Pistonheads, they may have meets in your region and that would be the best way of getting to know owners, though it's mostly exotica/muscle rather than classics.
