Want to work at Getty Images?

I really dont like getty... alright to give free pics and ruin everyone else chances if your big enough... seriouslyy dont like them at all... But thats getty.. not the photogrpahers.. great opportunity for anyone that can grab it.. If your qualified then go for it I say :)

Once again you highlight your lack of knowledge and experience of sports photography.

You moan because "Getty" gave out free pictures of the Women's Premier League. What you ignore every time I tell you is that the FA paid Getty to take the photos and distribute them for free to increase the exposure of women's football.

It would be no different to the FA paying you to do exactly the same. Your beef is with the FA, not Getty.

This must be the 10th time I've told you this but still you don't listen.

Yep thats me... no knowledge or experience of sports photography.

PS I never mentioned womens football.. try to get over yourself.. that was what.. one? two? years ago maybe more?

So when else did Getty give away sport photos?

And your lack of knowledge and experience is obvious.

And the time other than women's football at Getty gave away sports photos?

Read the credit for the first image.. and i am not spending time looking for more examples... we ahve different views.. i put mine forward because they are my views about a company.. you reply with personal stuff... .... please come back with a reasoned well thought out response rather than trying to throw petty insults and we will debate the matter.. otherwise dont bother :(

This is why you do not understand the world of sports photography.

Getty do not give away photos for free. Using a Daily Mail wrong credit proves nothing. They have captioned a Getty Images photo as a Reuters one before; that doesn't make it a Reuters photo!

Here is a link to the Getty site showing pricing for that photo you have highlighted:

If it is being given away for free as you say, why are Getty charging for it?

So I say again, show me where Getty Images are giving away photos for free.

That is what they will charge anyone who wants to purchase it now.. but the evidence is clear it was free to the mailonline.. trying to say the mailonline credited it wrong isnt going to wash and its not the only one... just because they have a price on the website for anyone else to buy it doesnt mean they didnt give it the mailonline for free..

clear as day its credited to getty/freepics

I have a point and so far your argument is to say the mailonline have credited it wrongly and that because my point is different to yours then i must not undertsand the world of sports photogrpahy.. ... come on?

Before we go any furthur as people do like to twist things.. I dont have a problem with anyone.. I dont have a problem with you gerard (even if you so obviously have one with me :) ) I dont have a problem with getty photogrpahers a lot i have met and are all decent.... in fact lets re read the first post i placed in this thread

thats getty.. not the photogrpahers.. great opportunity for anyone that can grab it.. If your qualified then go for it I say

I just dont like the way so called professional photographers cry when they see pictures being given away for free but then defend companies like getty who do the same.. why isnt it the same for everyone ???

Your "proof" is a wrongly applied credit. It's a Premier League photo, and one taken by Plumb Images. Who are Plumb Images? They are the official photographer of Leicester City FC.

So even if you were right, which you are not, IT'S NOT EVEN A GETTY IMAGES PHOTO.

I'm stopping now because you simply don't listen or don't understand the business of sports photography.

Why have you only now decided to tell us that?

Oh dear ..

PS You would think getty or plumb would have put mailonline right.. because its not the only getty/freepics image : But hey... what do I know eh ? :) :)

That'll be the Plumb Images whose photos from Leicester v Man United were at least in part distributed by Getty?

Yes, and? Tell me how that is Getty giving away photos for free? It's not.

kipax rants and rants about Getty Images giving away photos for free and has been told many times they don't. First it was with the Women's Premier League, when it was the FA's photos and not Getty's. Now the "proof" is a miscredited photo, a photo that was not even taken by Getty. Even if Getty were distributing the Plumb photos for free, which they weren't, it would be Plumb giving the photos away, not Getty.

So I say again, where are all the sports photos Getty are giving away for free that causes kipax to get his knickers in a twist whenever they are mentioned?

kipax rants and rants about

I have an opinion that you don't like.. first you say i dont know anyhting about sports photogrpahy business... and now your saying I rant and rant... Its just an opinion...for me its a valid one.... Please stop with the personal and petty remarks about me.

that causes kipax to get his knickers in a twist whenever they are mentioned?

seriously :(

I have made my opinions about getty.. not about you personally.. pack it in!

Yes but (playing devils advocate)
1. You did ask where Getty were giving away images
2. The move was suggested to cost photographers work/Jobs

Getty Images' decision to make 35 million of its images free was inevitable, says Jeff Moore of the British Press Photographers' Association, yet it will cost photographers their jobs

http://www.bjp-online.com/2014/03/g...says-british-press-photographers-association/

However this doesn't cover commercial, so could you both possibly be slightly right, depending on how you look at it?

A warning has been given for this post
I'd stop digging a bigger hole for yourself KIPAX, your ignorance is shining through pretty clearly.

kipax's argument against Getty stems from his entirely wrong belief that they "gave away for free" photos from the Women's Premier League. As it affected his bottom line, that is why he doesn't like Getty. The issue is, Getty didn't give the photos away, the FA did. They were the FA's photos and they used the Getty platform to give them away for free. In the same way that anyone could use the platform to give away photos.

So his beef should be with the FA but it is instead with Getty.

Getty do deals with sports governing bodies for individual games and also for major events, they agree a price with the governing body so the governing body get access to every single image in real time but part of the deal is that Getty then give away or allow free access to ALL THE NATIONAL PAPERS for every image as promotion for the sport/event/governing body

Of course Getty get paid, then cant run a business if they dont, but they ALSO GIVE IMAGES AWAY FREE OF CHARGE as part of the pre agreed deal

When i shot Pro RL it was exactly the same with SWPix during certain major events, as the official RL photographers they got paid from the RL, any anyone else was picking up scraps from the trade and local papers

OK gerard :) A customer tells me they dont want to buy my pictures because they get them from getty for free.. then yeagh.. not happy with getty,. You say getty get paid for them so not free.. but the end customer isn't paying for them.. seems a fine line .. I am on one side you are on the other and we have different opinions on getty... I dont mind a healthy debate about it ..difference of opinion is what makes the world go around..... unfortunatly you seem to take it personally.... I dont have a problem with you or anyone that works at getty which is somehting i pointed out a lot... so we should probably stop now..after all its not that important is it :)

I am happy to hold my hand out <shake> and walk away :)

Aren't we sort of forgetting that media outlets pay a subscription to have access to those 'free' pictures?

Some do yes but this is slightly different.. On the one hand getty get paid.. on the other hand they hand out free pics... Look at it like this... lets use the womens football as an example seeing as people like that :) I ahave a magazine that pays me for womens football pics.. suddenly they say they cant pay me any more because they get the pictures from getty for free... They dont pay getty or anyone else a penny for the pictures.. they get them for free... however getty are being paid by the fa to do this... so getty get paid.. but the magazine.. local media and indeed football clubs themselves get the pics for free..

So which side of the thin line do we stand.. if your an independant you say arrgh.. there all getting pics for free from getty.. which is true.. the other side of the line they say.. but getty are getting paid its good business for them..

So it really depends on your point of view.. mine is its bad.. others is its good.. and that as most of us know is what makes the world go around :)

Then cut out the personal crap Gerard, agree or disagree KIPAX has been nothing but curteous.

Exactly this

Now all of you play nicely please.

Stop telling people that their knickers are in a twist as it's patronising. Stop calling people ignorant. And just stop with the general bickering really

Oh and mod's hat off. The only pro photographers that I have met at football grounds that have sneered and looked down their nose at me, have been Getty. Might just be coincidence. Might not be but meh. Such is life

Thats because you only let Rugby players on top of you (according to you) :exit:

Haha I hardly let them (apart from my husband of course), they just piled on top of me!

As I went to great pains to state.. I have nothing against getty photogrpahers at all. met a few up here.. nice people.... however now daves popped in I am guessing this weekends press room whispering will be a whole different story haha :)
