Yes
I am looking for an all round 18-200mm lens for my Nikon D5000 to use on county walks and when I'm on holiday etc, to save me carrying an arsenal of lens.
I see both Sigma and Tamron do these lenses with and without Optical stabilisation, and the price difference seems to be double if you want OS.
So has anyone had any experience with any of these lens or has any recommendations.
I have also seen that Sigma have released newer 18-200mm lenses with a new faster motor so is it worth spending more on this?
I ideally would not want to spend more then £350, however are the cheaper Sigma and Tamron (around £150ish) worth the money or should i be trying to buy the more expensive models?

I'm in the same boat as my only remaining zoom lens is huge!
so I'm going to buy a 55-250 canon to compliment my 17-55 instead of going down the full 18-200 route as it would literally only be used rarely.
and the compromise at the wide end has always bugged me on some broad range lenses

For £350 you might be able to get a 2nd hand Nikon 18-200vr.

I'm really not a fan of Tamron version. My mum has one in Sony mount. Horribly noisy AF and zoom creep that has to be seen to be believed. IQ is okay though. Not used the Sigma ones. I do have a Nikon 18-200 vr1 at the moment that my wife uses. It's not really my sort of thing but it's a decent enough lens and I've been quite pleased with the results from it. I think they're in the region of £250+ used but might be a better investment.

It may also be worth looking at the Nikon 18-135 AFS. A bit less range but a very decent lens at a good price.

Hmmm haven't looked at the Nikon 18-135mm
a quick check on ebay and they seem to be going for £135 used which is very tempting

You should be able to get one cheaper than that elsewhere. I bought one 18 moths ago for about £80. The only downsides are smaller telephoto length and heavy distortion at the wide end but that is fairly typical of any zoom with a big range is easily corrected in most cases.
