HI Dek I had a look at using a gimbal not only for my cameras but also for my camcorder. Soon gave up that idea as changing lenes or from camera to camcorder would be a pain in the arse setting it up every time. more time getting the balance right than using either. with this I can change instantly from one to other,
The problem with using a gimbal I gather is setting it up. I think this cost me no more than £20 if that I had an old round handle I had modified for this purpose. I think the parts I used are self explainatory and the flat 8" bar is long enough to have the handle on top and still clear the flip out screen.
want to put on a tripod? no problem and no fiddling about just have a tripod plate screwed into the Bottom of the round part as shown.

It is not so much as balance as to how you hold a camera or camcorder. Companies want you to spend £100s on their products when very often not necessary
Hope this may be of some help. Please let me know , I am 80 years old and keeping a video steady made me come up with this solution
