Hi all,

Looking to upgrade my walkabout EF28-135mm lens that has served me well for a few years to something similar but maybe a bit sharper?

It's for a 60d and my budget is around £500-600 max.

On the cheap end there is the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens but in terms of IQ would it be a step up? The STM is a bonus as faster focussing I would imagine. The lens is an EF-S so this may give an advantage over the old one on my 60d?

As I say this is for my main lens walking about in varied situations.

Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated. Even if the advice is for that money you may as well stick with what you got.

Many thanks

Steve

If you have been happy with the EF lens previously and 28mm has been adequate at the wide end why not go for the 24-105 F4 L
Slightly wider at the short end and shorter at the long end, but constant F4 aperture and IQ will be far better than the 28-135

Ditto, if you're happy at the short end the 24-105 is excellent and within budget. If you want something wider then you might consider the ef-s 15-85, which is also supposed to be decent. I don't think the 18-135 has that great a reputation by comparison.

I dont think you can do much better than the EF-S 17-55 on a crop body although focal length is obviously limited, but the upgrade would be noticeable.

My vote would also be the 15-85mm if you don't mind losing a little range at the long end, been very happy with the results from mine (both wide angle and at 85mm).

Many thanks for the advice here folks, very helpful as it narrows things down somewhat. Price hunting is my next job.

Appreciate it loads, I know this type of Q is common but it really does help to get real experiecne from people.

Thank you again
Steve
