Yes
I've just spotted the news that there'll be no more airshows at RAF Waddington. One report has mentioned costs and another about security concerns as being the reasons. Sad news indeed.

Sad news, one of the first air shows I went to was there.:(

Yeah we went a few years ago and it took as long to get from Leeds to within 5 miles of the entrance as it did to drive (or should I say queue) those final 5 miles. A very enjoyable show.

RAF Leuchars now Waddington. Been to both over the years. A sad sign of the times unfortunately. Which is next ?:(

That leaves Cosford as the last remaining RAF show. Very sad times indeed but not surprising given the security risks that drone flying from Waddington could cause the show from certain sections of society. The possibility of a show at Scampton is encouraging but the cynic in me would suggest that there will be no replacement.

Leuchars is now an Army base so unlikely to hold an airshow.

Drone flying is the future, but it is not something for the public's gaze, given that it will be the RAF piloting such machines. However new conflicts will almost certainly utilise such methods rather than risking manned flights.

Is it really security risks or risks of Shoreham accidents that are behind such decisions? We continued to have air shows through the Falklands conflict and other undeclared wars, so I rather think political sensitivities are probably more relevant, alongside spending cuts.
