Can Vuescan do batch scanning? Ive downloaded the demo version and it doesnt have an option. Do you get more menu options if you buy the full version?

I've got Vuescan for driving my Minolta Scan Dual 2. This has a six frame negative scanner, which can be scanned in batch mode. From memory the only difference between the free demo version and the real paid one is that the demo version puts dollar sign watermarks over every scan.

If you want all that this software is capable of you would do best to get the professional version. I have used this for about 5 years and am very satisfied.

^^^WHS^^^ Does the job for me too

well i purchased the pro version and the bloody thing is impossible! all the online docs refer to older versions with different menu choices. You set up a crop template and it just doesnt seem to match up with whats on the bed of my v750, the outline just cant be matched up over the negative frames no matter what i tweak!

My experience of flat-bed is limited to an Epson Perfection V 300 and the crop template lined up pretty well. If you have the template set to the correct size you can always move it manually if you wish.

What they both said. I haven't succeeded with batch scanning yet. There are some hints in the Vuescan discussion thread, from @Strappy .

well thanks to that thread i got batches working, in the crop tab set it to Manual crop size and drew a little frame around one image, MF multi crop with auto offset ticked and it all fell into place. Its not exactly intuitive.

it still seems to do 2 scans though , a dark and a light one and then merge them which is time consuming. You mentioned it in that thread, did you ever get to the bottom of it?

I have been using VueScan , the Pro. version, for around 8 years. It takes a bit of getting used to and I find it is not the most intuitive of programs but it is worth the effort.

I scan 4, 35mm strips of 6 frames colour, B&W, or reversal in batch mode. Once you have set up for each film type you can save the settings making future use quick and easy. I does take time to figure it out but in my case I found it well worth the effort. I have it set up to batch scan half frame 35mm negs. as well. That is 48 frames in one sitting.

I also use it for MF anything from 6x45 up to 6x9 and find it does an good job. If you have the time to spend figuring it out I think you will come to appreciate it.

You get two scans when you have dust removal ON.

Glad that worked. I don't normally scan with the V500 as I'm currently using 35mm and have a Plustek 7500i, so I haven't tried it again since Dean gave that advice. Noted for future reference though!

No idea why there were two scans, as I had ALL the filter options turned off, including dust removal. Doesn't add too much (only double, hey :( ) so I didn't worry about it.

I think once you've got your Vuescan set up the way you want it you can often just carry on and scan. And it's happy to remember different settings for black and white negative, colour negative, and transparencies. It's not brilliant, but it's better than Silverfast (6)!
