Beginner VR or non VR

Hi,

I am looking to buy a Nikon 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 g af-s lens to use on a D700. The question is would you get the VR version or the non VR version.

If you can afford it go for VR as it is better for slower shutter speeds and less likely to show any camera shake - especially at the 85 end.

What are you going to be photographing?

At such a short focal length I wouldn't pay extra for VR unless you have shaky hands or want to shoot at slow shutter speeds.

The VR version is a belting lens for the money and cheap enough S/H.

I'd go for the 24-120 f4 VR, bit more expensive but an excellent lens for the money. So good, that when I had the 24-120 f4 and 24-70 f2.8G I decided to keep the longer lens..
