Just a few querys guys.

I quite fancy going up to the peak district, clent hills or my local park for some sunrise shots. I am just wonder if people tend to go to these sort of places on their own or in a group?

I am wary of carrying £1000s of pounds of equipment if there is a risk I might get it stolen. I know that sounds silly but you can never be to carefull.

I guess a Saturday morning or a Sunday morning at the popular peak district spots will be quite busy anyway?

Also is it possible to get to these spots (for example the grindstone edges etc around bakewell - I forget the name) easily before sunrise or returning after dusk?

In my experience sunrise is very rarely busy anyway, except in mid winter in towns. In other places I think any danger is more likely to come from being on your own if you take a tumble, than from dodgy characters. If I walk by myself in remote areas I ALWAYS let some one know where I'm going.

There are probably a few areas where walking in the dark may not be advisable but in many a head torch and some care is all that is needed.

As already said, if it doesn't feel right then move on.

As Dave says, in the countryside there is more risk from falling and hurting yourself than getting attacked. I carry a personal locator beacon on my kitbag, it allows two way communication in an emergency anywhere on the surface of the earth and I'd recommend it to anyone spending a lot of time in the countryside on their own. The model I use is a delorme inreach and they're not dear, compared to what a lot of us spend on camera kit.

I've never had an issue and chances are if you see someone else at sunrise it'll be another photographer or a dog walker. Although with thousands of pounds of gear I would advise insurance, not only from theft, but damage, loss etc.
