Sent to me by a trusted relation this a.m. - just in case I thought it better to post than not ...

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG ALL YOUR CONTACTS:

Be alert during the next few days: Don't open any message with an
attached file called "Invitation", regardless of who sent it. Its a
virus that opens an Olympic Torch that "burns" the whole hard disk of
your computer.

This virus will come from someone who has your e-mail address;
that's why you should send this e-mail to all your contacts.

It's better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the
virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called "Invitation", even though sent by a
friend, DON'T open it and shut down your computer immediately. This is the
worst virus announced by CNN, it's been classified by Microsoft as the most
destructive virus ever.

The virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there's no repair
yet for this particular virus. It simply destroys the Zero Sector of the
Hard Disk, where vital information is kept.

> SEND THIS E-MAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW.

I never follow up these sort of messages as they usually end in embarrasment ;)

Thanx Robert very useful linky - being amongst the more unaware at least I and others will all now know the situation and not just the clued up among us.

I would rather be embarrassed than find out someone has been caught out because I didn't bother ... I think ! Anyway, it is useful to know it is a hoax and others can take comfort from knowing this.

And besides ... I am used to being embarrassed on TPF already ... and not just with my pics ! ;)

Thanx again, and best wishes,

Most of the major AV company's websites now contain 'hoax' sections.

I've been embarrassed on more than one occasion and now always check the hoax listings first.

Better safe than sorry though.

It's called Viral Mail & basically is a form of chain letter. Don't worry Rog, at least you only posted it on one place, unlike the aim for it to be posted to hundreds of people each time :)

On a slightly different tangent the 2 best fun execs I have seen ditrubuted round an open office are :-

a) Imitated the window for deleting all your master files....even I fell for it & yelled swear words whilst shutting computer down. Imagine that 100 fold over the next 30 mins across the office ;)
b) The one that cracked me up was the one that flashed your screen madly & if you had your sound up , yelled "Hey everyone I'm looking at Porn" ..... some very RED faces ;)

It'll destroy my 'zero sector', you say?

I don't know if I have one of those.... maybe it got me already? ;)

[edit] Oh - the best one of these that cracks me up every time is the MSN one from Andy and Pete or something, claiming to be the directors of MSN, and getting themselves into a bit of a flap because there's only 672 MSN addresses left, and urging you to forward their e-mail to everybody you know in order to keep your account active.

Boggles the mind how people actually get taken in by this sort of pish.

I'd love to get my hands on that one again.

I'd only owned a PC for about a month when it was sent to me.

Had to throw my Y-Fronts away

Spitting out hot tea through your nose never gets any less painful, does it? Thank you for that.

No need to worry at all. Hoax or not, thanks for informing us :)

I refer to the quote that's going in my sig soon :

""he who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever"
