Has anyone had any experience of these?

We have a hotel voucher which we were given as a present and when I tried to book I was surprised to be asked (by Virgin not the hotel) for my credit card details... It's free isn't it? So why do they need my card details? Shouldn't the voucher number be enough?

So, if anyone has been on one of these were you asked for your credit card details?

As a general point I wouldn't recommend anyone buying one of these as a present. I think it would be much better to go direct to the hotel / activity provider direct.

Thanks if anyone can help.

I imagine it will be the same as a security deposit in case you throw the tv out of the window. I don’t think they will charge anything. Some hotels I have stayed in like to ore charge £50 to your account to cover any extras. You can decline this.

ah, I never thought of a security deposit. Thanks.

Depends what the terms say but I suggest that as Gremlin says it may just be for a pre-auth to be put on your card in case you break anything or go nuts with the mini-bar. It's normally common practice for hotels :)

Bought my daughter a Balloon Flight, got cancelled a few times because of incompatible weather conditions, but went well in the end.

Even bigger bonus, her friend didn't fancy it so I ended up going, it was a great experience and would definitely recommend it

Depends on whether the experience is a virgin or if the experiencER is one.
