Hi there. I have purchased a Christmas vinyl backdrop to take some photos of my kids. I cannot take a photo without a 'shine/light spot' on the backdrop, even without using a flash. Can anyone give me some ideas of how to get rid of this in the picture? I don't have any lighting so am using a flash gun and natural lighting.

Light bounces like a snooker ball. I'm guessing the flashgun is on camera and shot without any form of modifier.
Take it off the camera (wireless triggers) and soften it with a brolly or softbox, As high as you can realistically and at a 45deg angle to your subject as a starting point.
There's also the issue of cheap vinyl backgrounds being a little more reflective than would be ideal, try some dulling spray to overcome that, but only once your lighting is better.

Hi there Phil. Thank you for taking the time to reply to my thread. I tried the flash gun with a dome diffuser and with no flash at all and neither worked. I managed to get rid of the reflection on the end by increasing the amount of natural light surrounding me. I think the reflection was coming from a tiny light that blinks on just before you take the photo! Thanks again for your advice - I am determined to learn more
