I've been fiddling about with old OM lenses since I went digital. Getting some stunning results when using the 50mm 1.4 and 1.8, and also when sellotaping lenses together for a super macro set up.
So, as a bit of an experiment... my good lady, Sarah was lent my OM 50mm 1.4. She has a 1000d and a limited knowledge of what everything does. The best photos she had been getting before using the kit lens seemed more like luck than anything else.
She's had the lens a week now... we have found an almost instant understanding of f-number/aperture/the a-hole???
The prime lens giving no option to spin the zoom in and out to fill the frame with the subject is making her concentrate more on composition and the speed of the lens is keeping little Sam sharp no matter how fast he runs whilst giving lovely DOF for nice portrait shots of him.
So... seeing as I just lost my 1.4. Any recommendations from the vintage lens types out there for a replacement? I find the OM 1.4 a little soft wide open and wonder if it could be improved upon by any others?
