Seeing as it's going to be my 50th next year, wife and family decided we're going abroad ,Spain i think ,6 adults and two grandchildren under 4 yrs of age .must have privacy (prob more costly) ,we're planning August/September next year ....Idealy flying from Inverness or Aberdeen

Where do i start......help:D

I've only been abroad once so finding this a bit overwhelming to say the least :D

I shall be watching this thread Sean. It has saved me asking about a Villa for 9 Adults in August next year, some of the ones I have looked at are not looking cheap at the moment :( I am just wondering if out best option is to book two individual ones on the same site.

My move would be a travel agent, and then trawling the internet for comparisons.
Sounds like a fun holiday.

well, you don't fly from Inverness as it will cost you a fortune as there aren't any direct flights at the moment.

We've got mates out there and almost always fly from Glasgow, give me a bell sometime :)

Ownersdirect ? We've used that site a few times

have a look at Cottages for u they have places overseas. i had looked at them to go to Italy but ended up in Cuba.

Not much difference
My company director went to Cuba last year and raved about it.

You've said, 'Spain I think', so I assume it could be another country. If that is an option, I'd suggest France and somewhere like the Dordogne area where you can get a large converted farm etc type place with pool and plenty of space outside for bbq, balls games etc.

We've done it for many years and always found it great (I am half french so a little biased, though my wife is 1/2 Spanish so we do go there on alternate years). Flip side if you are quite often far from anywhere, which is good or bad dependent on what you want to do.

We tend to just google places and book that way. Aim for an area, then look for somewhere within your price range.

We stayed in this place two years ago, it was great but even for us was a little far from anywhere (20 mins drive from nearest town) but pretty private (though there were two nearby large houses, no-one was staying in them at the time. Tennis court, pool, loads of outdoor space, bikes to cycle on (old admittedly). You do need a car. We were in September though, August is peak time in France, and most of Europe - if you can wait to September will be much cheaper and possibly more options. http://www.jean-du-claud.com/index.html

When we holiday in Spain (Balearic Islands) we always go for a Villa, and pretty much have the same criteria, 5-8 people depending on when we go, and privacy including a pool.

We find James Villas very good. From their 'best of' section usually means the more secluded private ones, as well as better sized pools. Link to it here http://www.jamesvillas.co.uk/accommodation/bestofjames.cfm Just choose your location and room / amenity requirements. What is your budget?

We've just got back from another two week break with them (Last week of July and first week of August).

In Spain you've got 5 bedroom ones like this:

Located within the south side of Sotogrande, Los Hermanos is a spacious single storey villa. Beautifully furnished throughout, this villa is fully equipped with all the necessary requirements to make your holiday as relaxing as possible. This includes air conditioning throughout, as well as great facilities for the kids, with a comprehensive games room. Externally, there is a large but pretty covered terrace, complete with barbecue, perfect for those evenings dining alfresco. Meanwhile, there is a huge lawned garden and delightful private pool, meaning the kids can run out their energy whilst the parents relax on the terrace. A fantastic 'Best of James' villa for your stay on this first-class resort.

Christina is a bright, spacious villa located in a peaceful part of the ‘Alto’ area of the prestigious Sotogrande resort. Furnished to a high standard throughout, the villa benefits from air-conditioning, a well-equipped kitchen and a lounge boasting flat-screen satellite television, DVD player, free Wi-Fi access and even a Nintendo Wii to help keep the kids amused. From here, patio windows open up to a large covered terrace area complete with dining furniture and a barbecue for a spot of dining alfresco. Christina has a stunning garden and a large private pool which all the family will enjoy. Sotogrande includes some of the region’s most prestigious golf courses and unspoilt beaches, as well as a range of fantastic shops and restaurants, making Christina an excellent choice for your holiday to the Costa del Sol.

The above are just the first couple when I selected Spain and five bedrooms.

You either just book the villa with them, or villa and flights, or villa flights and car hire. They are very accommodating.

If you don't like their default airline (flightsharing with Monarch / Thompson etc) you can book just the villa and or car and sort the flights yourself.

No I don't work for them, they just always deliver (when we use them anyway).

^ All the more reason to either go in store (or to any travel agent to be honest) at let them take the hassle out of it for you.

Step 1 would be to see where flights go from your chosen airports, then look for accommodation there. While it's usually more expensive to fly from a very hand departure point, by the time fuel and parking have been added to the equation, it can actually work out cheaper!

Thanks everyone, it's a bloody minfield out there people :-D,so many bloody choices and they all look fantastic in the photos :-S.....
