Hi,
Does anybody know how bad the vignetting is on the Sigma 500mm F4? Is it worse than the Nikon and Canon equivalents or is it comparable?
Many thanks

Ive just had a look. It seems that the sigma 500 f4 has quite bad vignetting. More so than the 200-500 Nikon. Am I reading the chart right?
Thanks

Hi, I haven’t got any experience with these long faster f4 primes. So I’m probably over thinking it. However is this not impeding? For instance if I was to use the rule of 4/3 and I place my subject in the top left corner, wouldn’t that mean I would have to account for 1 stop of darkening from the vignetting effectively making the lens an f5 - f5.4 in the extreme corners. I’m only just looking into this vignetting now as I’ve never noticed any issues with vignetting before. It’s strange though from looking at the charts it seems most of these prime lens are only true f4 aperture in the centre of the frame.
I probably sound silly, just curious
Thanks

Not sure on the technicalities but the exposure will be taken from the light across the frame having went through the lens. assuming normal metering. Given the other lenses of the same focal length are pretty much the same there isn't an alternative as the zooms will be worse and slower in the first place. There are so many good people on here could you not put out a call and see if anyone local has a 500mm F4 to allow you to do a few test shots or send you some images. Vignetting is not something I can remember ever being talked about with this type of lens out with a technical review. Most shots are central or on the thirds so won't suffer badly and the software will sort it out without you nothing unless conditions are very poor and the iso really high
