Hi guys! New to the forum here, but have been browsing anonymously for some time now! Was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for good places to get landscape views of London. I'm most interested in photographing The Olympic Stadium at night. I've been up to Hackney Wick station and the footbridge but you only get a tiny view of the stadium. I've been to John Lewis's observatory as well, and while the view is incredible, it's distorted by glass which is full of glares and smudge marks. I've even tried the top of the car park, but again that view is ruined because of a caged wall. Anyone have any ideas? Would be much appreciated! Really want to capture the stadium during the Olympics when it is buzzing and beautifully lit up!

Top of Greenwich Hill by the Observatory if it's open...not sure you'll be able to see the Olympic park but it's a great view of Docklands.

Also new here, so hello everyone!

Crystal Palace/Beulah Hill has some great views of London, and also some of the most elevated. There are a couple of roofs I wish I could get onto as they have completely unobstructed views of the whole of London!

Just remembered this thread - if it stays open, the Orbit on the Olympic park:
Good views towards Canary Wharf and the dome too, but you'll need a long lens.

Hi
I'm going to London tomorrow. I would like to get a good night shot of tower bridge and Big Ben. I also want to get a dawn shot of Westminster palace.
Are the locations mentioned ideal for these.

Thanks

Hi John, if you specifically want shots of Tower Bridge/Big Ben then sadly the above is no help - they're mostly for panoramic views across many buildings. You can't get both locations in one shot, they're three miles apart and two river bends in the way.

Great shots of Tower Bridge available from St Katherine's dock (great foreground fountains there too!) or along the front of the Tower of London. My personal favourite is walking along the south-east bank from the bridge. You can shoot through the bridge back towards St Pauls or get some of the Gherkin/towers in - talk a map to follow the river path!

Start at Big Ben and you'll get a great shot from Parliament Square, don't forget to walk across Westminster Bridge to the London Eye.

If you have a couple more hours walk the south bank for a couple of miles and you'll pass The Eye, National Theatre, the OXO tower Bankside power station (Tate Modern), the Globe, St Pauls, the Golden Hinde, the Shard and HMS Belfast on your way to Tower Bridge!

Can you tell I quite like that walk? The path gets tricky to follow around the odd bit building work but just follow the crowd and you'll probably be fine, it'll be signed anyway.

Take the Thames Clipper back to where you started, or the 15 bus from Tower Bridge is a great (cheap!) scenic ride back through all of central London :)
