Viewing RAW on IPad 2 ??

I’m looking for some info if anyone is able to help please.

I don’t use an IPad but my wife has an IPad 2. When going away on holidays I usually bring my old small laptop to transfer my Canon RAW files to, so I can view them.
I have been told you can purchase an Apple IPad Connection Kit to transfer photographs from the camera (Canon 500D) or the SD card and view them on the IPad. There seems to be some very negative reviews about viewing photographs this way especially after the iOS 7 update. Does anyone here use this way to view what’s on their SD cards and have you had any issues?

If it is a straight forward process that works, it would mean one less piece of kit to pack when holidaying.

From some experience (2 years ago) they turned into tiff files?! when copying to ipad. Perhaps that was just the software. Android has no problem and loads of free apps to help
 
I use an iPad when away in our caravan to view and rate images, if they are not keepers I delete them in camera, it's just awkward because the iPad doesn't show file numbers. The camera adapter, there are two types one a card reader and the other a usb type connector into which you plug your camera sub lead, they are £25.00 each, but either works, and I know the card reader reads RAW files from my Nikon. I use the camera SD card as the storage device.

The iPad displays the internal JPEG file from the RAW data set. It then shows them in iPhoto. If you simply want to view the images it's fine, but as they are RAW you can't make changes. It's OK for viewing, but thats about all. Deleting can be a pain as you need to select each image separately and the delete the whole selection. Easiest way I found was to bring them in via iTunes. Delete them and then sync.

Having said that using the iPad as a temporary storage and viewing system works fine.
 
Thank you for the responses and my apologies for my delay in answering. The blue screen of death, caused me a problem.
