Can anybody point me in the right direction as to how I can view Canon 7D movies on the I Pad ? I have them loaded up but can't play them ?
Thanks.

you need to convert them to mp4 in order to sync them.

Either that or get one of many apps which allows you to stream video to it without hosting it on your ipad

That's odd. Doesn't the 7D produce H.264 in a .mov container? That should be compatible with Apple.

Yes it is a bit odd. The I Pad easily handles the downloading of videos and large RAW files from the 7D but you can't play the videos ! I recently bought a CF card reader that simply plugs straight into the I Pad which transfers all the photos and videos into the photo album but was disappointed that the videos can't be played.
I might buy the Air Video app and stream video from a PC but it would be nice to review videos out in the field straight from the card.

iPads and iPhones have only ever natively played mp4 files. Who knows why

Hi,
Noticed in the Video for the Card reader the Guy who was doing the Demo couldn't open the .Mov files he had Imported.

I have had Similar experience on the iPad1 with the SD card from a 550D.

Something I am going to ask Apple about.

Regards.

no need to ask apple the answer is that the movie files need to be in mp4 format to work natively

I have Final Cut Pro. And Compressor, its transcoding app, has presets for Apple devices. For the Apple TV, iPod video and iPhone they are H.264 video at specific resolutions. And per Apple's website, the iPad support H.264 up to 720p. So is your video 1080p?

That's a good point, iPads and new iPods look like they do support mov, thats news to me, but not at 1080p.

Although ipad2 does

I dont think that will work... it used to but Apple updated something to stop you being able to plug card readers in.

Don't bet your next wage packet on it mate, I wouldn't recommend something that I don't already use. I use one on my Ipad2.

Simply put your USB camera adapter in and plug one of these cheapy readers in and it downloads direct from CF cards.

Strange it doesn't work with my iPad 2

What reader are you trying to use ?

If you PM me your address I'll bung you one of the ones I use in the post, I got a few for mates and have a spare one.

Sorry a little off topic. Before IOS 4 (I think), I was able to plug in a CF reader inot the camera connection kit, but after the software upgrade, which ever one I try just says "this device draws too much power" and the unit doesn't work.

Are you saying that the CF reader in the Ebay post, actually does work with the Ipad 1 (original 64gb version) on IOS 4.3 ?

I'm not sure about the ipad1 but I use the one on ebay plugged into the Apple usb adapter in my ipad2.

I'm running IOS 4.3.5 and it works with that IOS.

I've tried quite a few readers and get the same result with most in that the Ipad says it uses too much power but the one I use seems okay.
