I'm looking for a video tripod head but don't want to spend too much as I doubt I'll have much use for it in the future (I suppose I could sell it on after I've finished but it might be useful to keep). The only criteria apart from price is it needs to be able to hold some heavy gear (1D and up to a 70-200 2.8).

Thanks.

You would probably get away with a manfrotto 701- max load of 4kg. A 1D and 70-200 should still be under 3kg. They are about £80-100 if you shop around.

I'd prob be tempted to go for the 501 as it has a max load of 6kg so a bit more leeway- think about £110-140

Having said that you can get a velbon DV7000 for about £85-100 and it comes with a fluid head with max supported weight of 4.5kg.

Personally I'd go quality head as a DV7000 wont replace my Gitzo but it does seem popular.
