Do you discuss video kit in here as well? Or just stills kit? I am not sure where to ask about these to be honest.

What kind of Lumens output should I be looking at for one of these LED light panels you can get? There is no guide number issued with any of them, so I have no idea how bright they are. I could be buying something that has the same light output as a glow worm in a jar for all I know! Anyone have a rough guide for the Lumens output to look at please? Anything else I should know about them? For video stuff a few speedlights aren't much cop. I need some lighting for video. I need a target microphone at some point too, but that can come later.

Tech Radar tested some of the panels a few years ago and the results are here..... It gives you some idea of aperture obtainable at 1m distance and you can extraploate from there.

Most panels are rated in Lux and that gives you an idea........x lux gives x lumens/m2

Thanks Bob.....the maths you quote is a bit beyond me to be honest. I have no idea how big these panels are, but more like cm squared, rather than meters! I was thinking of a couple of the cheap Chinese ones for £20 a piece for the playing I am going to do. I don't expect them to last long, but I shall only be using them for details and possibly for talking to camera stuff.

I will look at the review you mention, but I am not paying more than about £30. I only do about 3 videos a year!

The area that I quoted is the area that you wish to illuminate not the area of the led panel. I have a couple of Kaiser Starclusters that will give 600 Lumens covering 1m2 at 1m distance. The Kaisers (well outside your budget) spread the light out at around 60 degrees from the panel.
