Video editing kit ?

As title, what do you guys do for video editing ? How is your PC setup ? how do you use your workflow and what software do you use?

Im needing to get into it, and have done a couple of basic videos on imovie which is very easy, but I need more omph as it takes ages so I want to use my pc (mac laptop is 2ghz core 2, PC is 6core 4ghz AMD), so I started messing around with that, found the adobe elements software annoying and strange, switched to there pro stuff, it seems to make more sense but is overwhelming, where do I start guys ? I want a straight forward editing setup thats as easy to use as imovie but with more options and will use my PC's power.

I use Sony Vegas pro 9 but a lot of people like final cut too. All the proper editing programs will be overwhelming to start with but you'll soon have the basics. There's loads of tutorials online so just do a search for whatever program you choose to use. As for computing power, mine is about the same and seem to do ok. There are some settings in Vegas that you can change that will make it run smoothly. Like I say, loads of info on YouTube / Google etc so do a search and get the basics and the rest will come.

I use Premier Pro and it's awesome! Highly recommend THIS book which will get you on your way. Then google for anything specific you want to do, there are tons of tutorials on the net.

Another Vegas pro user here, very easy to use for the basics, if you don't want to pay too much, you could do worse than Sony Vegas movie studio, a cut down version of Vegas pro.

My current pc doesn't like HD footage so I'm currently using a fellow housemates pc workstation with Avid Media Composer 5. The pc isn't to best thing in the world but you don't have to wait long to render 1080p stuff. Workflow for a typical mtb video currently goes:

Copy to PC
Convert to DNxHD Avid format using MPEG Steamclip (Quicker than letting Avid do it)
Quick Import to Avid
Select and mark clips to use
Create sub sequences with sound, effects etc
Colour grade
Create titles etc
Create final sequence
Export using Avid at desired settings (Slow, need to use a seperate program to speed this up)
