Yes
I love a challenge however I have a job tomorrow morning that involves capturing images from the air. Right up my street you might say... well yes but the weapon of choice is not a still camera but this:

I have to get two 30 second clips of a fly past over two locations near Loch Ness tomorrow morning and I have only just been given the camera. And apparently it is expensive.... better not drop it then.

Wish me luck and I will let you know how I get on tomorrow.

First off, good luck for tomorrow matey

Let's see the video once you have done it

LOL I do believe thats a nice expensive camera :D
Looks like the one I got to use at the BBC.

Good luck with it!

I'll be handing over the camera as soon as I finish but hopefully later will have something to share.

Cheers mate! I was supposed to be flying a Hi-Def for the BBC last weekend but they couldn't get insurance (only £5K). Lightweights!

get yourself one of those laptop security chain gizmos
attach it firmly to camera and your body!

aviate, navigate, communicate, then take pix!

That a PD150? - if so there are more expensive things in the world :p but also plenty of cheaper things...nice and simple cameras though :) best of luck!

Its a porn cam - seemingly the worlds most popular porn making machine

Well you seem to know and I wouldn't dream of arguing. :D

Whereabouts? I have the day off (once I get a couple of tyres changed) and could come down and shoot you from the other end.

Sorry to disappoint Steep, despite dseered's suggestions otherwise it is not a porn shoot! ;)

I am aiming to take off about here:

and the main location is here :

Look out for a green Transporter van with a windsock nearby.

Urgh, I absolutely detest those - I sometimes have to use them and compared to the Canon offerings they are a total pain.

Good luck getting shake-free footage, your photography knowledge will help a lot, but I'd recommend taking a mini tripod if you can to help steady yourself. Never easy.

Thanks,
James

hee hee - you haven't seen what he flies!
he puts it on rather than gets into it!

Are you going up in a fixed wing or chopper? I've done a number of shoots from choppers in my time.....

Guessing he will be using his para-motor/glider/parachute things JB :)

hmm interesting pair (of quotes!)

Well I am back. But it was not the success I had planned. :(

Vic (whose camera I was using) took along another VT who is working on this project (A private release DVD telling historical stories based in and around Loch Ness). On seeing my set-up Jonathan immediately offered his Canon XL-H1 which was a cinch to use and slightly more compact than the one pictured above.

Anyway I launched OK and started a filming run towards the Dun when my engine started to die and then stopped. Damn! I always fly with a landing option in view and easily made the landing with no drama however the engine had no compression so wouldn't re-start. It looks pretty major so I doubt I will be in the air for a wee while.

The lads were happy with the footage I did get though so we may have another go at this.

Thanks for all the support as usual guys.

i wish i'd seen your post yesterday as i'm just down the road from there and i''d have come along to watch. i spend a bit of time up there helping the local stalker. it's a lovely part of the world, apart from the state of the road.....
