Very very silly sync-cable question...

So I've got some new PocketWizard FlexTT5s for my stobist stuff. However, I also have a load of Interfit EX heads that I will occasionally use with them.

At the PW end the jack takes a 3.5mm stereo type male head. At the Interfit end it also takes a 3.5mm stereo type male head. So here comes the silly question....

Is there any reason I couldn't buy some ok quality stereo audio cables with the same connectors and use those vs some mega expensive PW own version? Am I missing something? I mean there can't be a pinout difference surely.....

Told you it was a silly question :bonk:

That's what I do with the old school PWs.

I use mono leads but somebody here explained to me that stereos are OK too.

Cheers. Am I also to assume then (barring some voltage resistance type issue) that a simple headphone splitter can then be used to trigger two heads from a single receiver?

yep and yep :)

I use stereo leads, means that if the stereo in a studio's missing the cable you can use one to plug in your ipod :)

Update: So my stereo leads only partially worked. Basically I had to slightly withdraw each plug at the PW end for the flash to fire. Once pushed fully in it didn't work at all.

Now I've got to figure out if it's because they're stereo not mono or if I was just unluck with the manufacturer I picked and they have 'longer' pins. Leaving them slightly out is not an option as they aren't locked in.

Thoughts?

Wrap them in thin metal tape? Or paint them with conductive paint?

Basically short them out to mono.

Um, maybe check with somebody who knows what they are talking about first....

Cheers, lol, but I'd rather not fry my new PWs. I've ordered a mono cable from Amazon but I just wondered if anyone has had similar issues?

I have read somewhere, can't for the life of me remember the link sorry! That there is a deference with the Jack. There is an extra insulating ring or one less on lighting jacks. You know, the black ring on the Jack.
Sorry this is so vague but i defiantly remember this as i wanted to do something similar.

Cheers. I'll let you know what I find, although I'm expecting the mono cable to work ok.

hmm, sorry to hear they didn't work out - seems strange (and quite possibly down to the cables) - I use stereo cables all the time with no problem.
