I'm no gardener, I cut the grass, that's it, but I recently did buy some shrubs for the 'wildlife' section, although my neighbours don't call it that.

One of those is this one, and I'n not sure of the name. The nearest I've found is kind of japonica. It did suffer a few weeks ago when we got an unexpected frost overnight , as you can se by the leaves in places and some of the flowers, but it seems to be coming back now.

I don't have the care tab anymore, so an ID and care tips would be spiffing, ta much.

Its a Celosia not sure the exact variety but its likely to be an annual only - will flower for this summer, set seed and die off in october (or hard first frost) Likes being well watered and remove each flower spike when its finished to promote more flowers,

Excellent James, thanks for that. (y)

Celosia plumose of some sort, as James has said. Usually grown as an annual but is more a tender perennial so MIGHT survive over the winter in warmer areas. Edible - but I can't tell you what it tastes like - too salady for me to try!!!

Thanks Nod.

Would it survive the winter indoors?

A cool conservatory would be an ideal spot to keep the plant going throughout the winter, you need to keep the frost off and keep it warmer than 5C (but not too warm).

As Tim says, a cool conservatory or spare bedroom windowsill should be ok. Water sparingly - you're more likely to drown plants than kill them of thirst! If it doesn't survive, all you've lost is 6" of shelf space anyway.

Good luck!

Cheers both, will give it a try when the time comes. (y)
