Very nearly entries for the Darwin Awards

Idiots
They put the animals lives at stake if anything had happened to the family.

That belongs under the

I watched that yesterday and couldn’t quite believe it. Extremely lucky that the cheetahs were hesitant else they wouldn’t have stood a chance.

Yes. It would be almost a given that if one of the cheetahs had attacked it would have been destroyed, because some stupid idiots who were undoubtedly told not to leave their car decided they knew best and walking among fast predators was a good idea.

Even though the cheetahs were no where near up to speed they still moved in very quickly.

The mind boggles ,totally insane

I don't think a Darwin award was an option in this case. To qualify, you need to completely remove yourself from the gene pool; surviving children are a disqualification.
It's a mainland European park, so LHD cars. The male entered the car rear-right, which implies someone (relationship unknown) was already in the closer rear-left seat. The female (carrying child) entered front-right. That points to the driver (likely the father) remaining in the car. So, even if everyone in the vid had been eaten, their idiotic line would survive though him (and maybe the unknown passenger), so no award.

I would guess that FAR fewer people have been attacked let alone killed by Cheetahs than by pet dogs. Still a pretty dumb thing to do though!

Probably due to the fact Cheetahs don't tend to be wandering around you local high street ;)

The longer video on the BBC site shows them getting out of the car (with kid) in two separate places. The second time four adults plus kid are out, but two run back straight away. So they could have been fully paid up Darwiners. Instead they're just obviously brain dead

It looks like only two of the cheetahs took an active interest in the family. Cheetahs tend to kill with a bite to the throat, suffocating their dinner (which takes time), so unless the other three idiots lined up and waited, even a worst case scenario would've left survivors.

It’s an interesting piece of human behaviour. As said, they get out of the car apparently to photo the resting cheetahs and then get back in and drive round the bend to get out again, so they knew the cheetahs were nearby. Then three of them run off leaving the the woman and child behind. The woman rescues the child and carries it back to the car where everybody else has got in and closed the doors! My thoughts were that they would have been in less danger if they had stayed together possibly facing down the cheetahs while slowly retreating. They were lucky it wasn’t lions in the enclosure.
The commentary, in Dutch but quite understandable, is hilarious but it’s also interesting that the filters decided to film rather than use their car to shield the tourists.

I’m not sure but it looks like another cheetah has circled round behind them because they seem to be already panicking before the two nearer cheetahs get to them.
What you say about suffocation is right but I would suggest human necks are a lot less robust that necks of wild antelopes and you would likely have a broken neck if a cheetah got you :(

Wonder if the baby's name is Felix.........

My favourite Darwin Award involves lions (and a togger).
Slight confession. In 1957 on holiday in Kenya I went to Tsavo National Park. Elephants were very numerous then. Anyway I got out of the car and strode through the grass to photograph* some elephants but when one of them spotted me and trumpeted I made a very hasty retreat ;) . Later that evening I found I had escaped the elephants but not the ticks

*Braun Super Paxette, don’t remember the lens but in the photo they look a lot further away than they did at the time.

I remember reading an article referencing brain scans on elephants that indicated that they think humans are cute.
That being the case, the one that saw you was probably saying "Awwww!"

Dutch park but the Golf didn't have Dutch (yellow) plates - suspect French....

Stoopid people.

They’re identified as French in the video commentaries.
