I received my prints from Photobox on Friday.

I was unfortunately really disappointed. All the 6 x 4.5 images are very, very dark and the colours are all really strange.

All the 10 x 7 and A4 prints are fine in colour although there are two missing.

What was really annoying was they sent me a calibration thingy with all the duff prints. Hmmmm, don't they think that all the prints would have been wrong if it was something at my end?:bang:

I have just emailed them to complain and am awaiting their responce.

I just seem to remember that a few people have had problems with them recently.

Andrea

Ive had a set thru and all are fine apart from the black & white ones which I am putting down to my processing on pse6 and obvioulsy not doing it well enough!

Although I've never had an issue with their prints, when I complained twice that I wasn't able to submit my order online as their site was slow... and hence missed the deadline on certain offers they were running, they credited my account immediately.

Currently have over £15 in credits waiting to be spent :)

I've found their customer service is 2nd to none.

I have used photobox for quite some time now.. but recently dissapointed with the prints and decided to do my own.. theres seem to have a dullness to them.. like a dull film over the top of the picture is the only way I could describe...

I have to agree with all the complaints on here, but to add that the last set of 9x6's were all blurred, I thought it was something to do with them being compressed to be uploaded but tried DS Colour labs and they are fine. I have definately moved on from Photobox.

Pretty much agree with that, the images come out dark and the colours de-saturated.
Although my monitor isn't calabrated I have no such issues with colab and the like athough it has to be said, the prices are a lot higher.
I tend to overlighten and slightly oversaturate when sending to photobox. this seems to do the trick

A victim of their own success, in need a new QC manager maybe?

My last set from them 2 weeks ago was fine but they were 10x8's, I haven't printed 6x4's for quite a long time. In fact only this morning I bought some 6x4 paper to see how my own printer copes with prints that small.

However, as already said, the reports I have read constantly round here have been that whenever there has been a problem they have sorted it out quickly and willingly, so I think next step is to have a word with them.

They've asked me to do a re-order now and they will refund me.

Also want me to send back the prints which were no good.

I was happy with the colours on the larger prints as they printed pretty much how I expected them.

I'll get the re-order done tonight and see what happens.

Thanks for your responses.

Andrea

Only tried them once, a range of about 30 prints from 6x4 through to 10x8s

As they were all of kids on a white background I kinda expected the white to be... white

So the mucky grey colour of the 'whites' and overall lack of saturation/contrast was a disappointment and an inconvenience. I simply binned the lot of them

Have used Loxley ever since

I got a set of A4(ish) prints done recently and they came back dark at first I assumed my monitor was to blame but after looking at the pictures on a variety of screens I've never found them to be as dark as photobox made them, suffice to say I shan't be using them again cheap is no use when the output is rubish.

I've never had any problems elsewhere have used boots and the fuji place in my local Sainsburys for smaller prints in the past without issue.

I have always used photobox since I started to print out my pics, always was impressed, but my last couple of sets have came back dark and flat. It was a easy to send them of and have them delivered next day.
I am having all my work done at proam imaging in Bradford now. Good prices and the quality is great,

My only problem, is that pictures are cropped (despite the option showing the expected crop) and the blacks aren't true blacks. But that would be similar in a few places. I will still use them for general purpose photos.

Another vote for ProAm - excellent service and quality.

I agree proam imaging do a very good service at extremely good prices.

I've just placed a test order 6x4 9x6 and a 12x8 - all the same image - lets see how they do...
website is pants.

Photobox used to be awesome but they must have changed something as ive had issues with my last 5 orders. Their customer service is really good but i guess thats because their getting a lot of practice with complaints. one thing i will never ever do again is order a canvas from them as it like something my kids would make at school.

my last set of 30 4x6 prints all came back looking very washed out. i think someone needs a boot

ohh wish i had seen this before ordering just ordered 3 12x10 of commisioned dog shots, not had a problm yet, but will wait to see, i am in dundee and the picies are in Carlisle so will need to wait and see on saturday.

I do have a £100 credit with them - if anyone wants it, I am happy to sell it cheap.....

Like others I've used photobox a few times, had problems twice. Thier customer service is excellent but they couldn't cure the problem I had (with photobooks)

Hopefully your prints will be ok.

Its only the small ones where the processing is totally wrong. The actual colours etc. of the larger prints are all ok. They just missed sending a couple of those.

another vote for pro-am here. Its the only place i use now.

I cant find anywhere as good, especially considering the value for money.

18 x 12 £1.00 - Dont know how they do it.....

I like the large format prints (above 10x7), although ocassionally a bit dark. I come to get used with Photobox printing and slightly adjust the levels to compensate..and it works. For the standard sizes I know that are done on Fuji minilabs and EXIF data is read by the printers with too much variability for my liking...Any image touched by editing software triggers no compensation by the printer PC, and printing 'as is' comes a couple of densitometric points to low. The untouched images are compensated either too much or not at all...Still not bad results for a regular customer with no pro aspirations...

ohh wish i had seen this before ordering .

Ditto, just sent off an order for 20 prints. Always been happy with them in the past, but if this batch is no good, I'll follow those links to Proam.

postage is the only promblem with pro am like to send my photos direct to customer photobox charge £1.50 pro am £5.00 big differnce now if anyone knows anywhere with good value p&p would be very intrested

last week i ordered 3 16x12 prints, arrived as always the day after, i went to mount them, and they had been rolled too tight so had creases.

phoned up, althought the woman sounded right p*ssed off about life, she got it sorted and they were here the very next morning FOC problem solved. i rang at 4.30pm.

got to agree with the colours issue though, they are generally coming back dark.

my three prints came back without problem

the three shots looked the same (colour and brightness) and were delivered within two days - seemed to be well packed

i still think the website sucks - slow as hell...

I've recently had a few 30 x 20inch prints done & whilst the print quality was good there packaging was awful - so much so that the prints were damaged & I've sent them back for reprinting.

Considering the popularity of the company they surely should be providing "printer profiles" rather than the colour chart they send.

For anyone processing prints on their PC I'd also highly recommend buying some calibration software, prices have fallen a little recently & it defintely makes a difference

I've had similar problems with prints coming back dark. It's a bit worrying as I use Photobox for all my printing for my customers ... and of course, I never know if everyone is happy. I have been looking around for somewhere else ... but Photobox offers the storage and the printing. Very convenient. Does anyone have any recommendations for a a site which offers a similar service?

Did anybody tried the new Photobox books..the personalised cover type?..that's if you manage to get into the site, load the pics, make the book and pay the thing...!..the old ones were awfull and I heard they changed processes...
