Listening to radio this morning they mentioned that George Clooney is getting married in Venice tomorrow and that the canal will be closed
to the public :(
This was criticized by one of the presenters who rightly pointed out that many people will have booked the hols or a romantic weekend away
long ago and can now not have the all important gondola ride
Have to admit I totally agree with him, I would be more then a little annoyed if I was going there and this happened to me just
because someone famous wanted a bit of privacy
What does anyone think

I'm all for privacy but I agree I'd be hugely annoyed too..
Holidays aren't cheap and probably some young newly weds loosing out on their special day because of it

The Telegraph story says otherwise, it states they will be travelling down the canal.
Which ever it is you can bet it will be pretty much congested by onlookers and the press :(

The city of Venice will make a fortune off the back of it.

i read the opening line and expected it to read ,the grand canal is closed for re-surfacing ..

Money's got to buy you something. If I could afford to close a place off for my sole benefit I'd pay the money.

I get what he's done and his training but I'd be a bit miffed if I was going to Venice. But it's for a day, most people go for more than one so no one has lost out completely

I think that if the Italians were to restrict access to the Grand Canal for a day, just for the Clooney "circus", then they deserve to see their income from tourism fall accordingly, because it just shows the World how shallow they really are.
I wonder how the gondoliers and other boatmen who operate on the canal reacted to this, after all it is their livelihood at stake.

Whatever, we seem to live in the age of the 'celebrity'. Some people will be annoyed by it - and I'd probably be one of them if it affected me - but I doubt if anyone will be sufficiently outraged to cancel their plans to visit Venice, boycott his films, or even remember it in a few weeks or months.

Please. They have 364.5 other days to rob gullible tourists blind

There ya go. ...it wasn't closed after all :-)

I suppose that you are right - been there done that, been fleeced. The best food we had in Venice was from a Chinese restaurant - what is that all about????

Blame Marco Polo!
