Hi all

I am using a hired Corsa 2017 model 5:door and the terms mean I can take it back on empty tank........so would welcome some insight about the guage. NB it was rented with half tank paid for up front!!!

Currently showing white on the last "bar" so getting close to empty but I surmise that when it kicks into reserve that last bar light will turn red (and the little petrol pump symbol & arrow will illuminate) telling me very low fuel.

I hope any Corsa or Vauxhall user in general can confirm the above plus tell me just how many miles reserve covers until "must put fuel in....?"

TIA for replies :)

For the piece of mind, a quarter tank is about £15 on my daughters 1.4 corsa. I'd take it back with something in the tank

If I left it with a 1/4 tank @ £15 I would in effect be adding approx 10% to the cost of the hire .........sorry if I come across as tight but I resent being fleeced for more than the contracted hire because I leave fuel in the car.

In the past they operated by giving half tank and unless brought back with half they had a surcharge. That is fair enough but with this newer method every hirer, if they leave fuel in the tank, is subsidising the company's end of year profits!!!

Closest analogy in camera gear.........you see a cameras price on the shelf, try that demo model........buy one of their boxed stock models to then see they ring up to the till @ 10% over the shelf price!!!

depending on your estimated mileage till hand back time i.e if you estimate a further 50 miles then stick in £5 or £6 worth of fuel to cover it .better than running out

I believe that petrol and diesel models of the 2017 Corsa are fited with a 45 litre tank, and they do between 42 and 80 MPG.
Fuel consumption varies between drivers and types of use. Work out how many miles you will be doing before handing it back, compared with how many you have done.
This is a bit like saying - "how long is a piece of string"

Carry a gallon of fuel in the boot, if you run out put that in it

Guys, thanks for all the replies, thoughts & insights.

The level 'kicked' to red low fuel level this afternoon....... so though only as couple of miles to drop the car tomorrow I put 2 litres in :)

PS spent part of the afternoon photographing a juvenile Spoonbill ;)

1 litre should be enough for at least 5 miles, even with a cold start thrown in!

Good luck finding a fuel station that will allow the dispensing of 1 litre.

Or even 2 litres. TBH, I'd have stuck a fiver in and hang the expense.

Well the last amount I put in was 2.01 litres ;)

It got us around the island and in the red zone upon return :D
