I doubt any businesses will absorb the VAT increase, with margins being forced to the low levels they are today if they have to pay the increase VAT then they will have to pass it on...
At least the government will be charging every Tom, Dick & Harry the same rather than taxing those who are allegedly well off
As far as I know, no VAT increase has been announced. There has been speculation about one, but nothing concrete. I can't see it helping things, personally.
I'm pondering a new laptop.. fortunately for work use so I can offset the VAT.. I'm hoping that Dell and the like will hold at pre-increase prices for a while (if it happens) so the ex-VAT price may see a drop for small business buyers.
And the government's plan seems to be working. Leak rumours of a VAT increase on June 22nd, sparking an upsurge in consumer spending to beat the rise. Then announce that it'll be going up on Jan 1st 2011 - boosting sales at Xmas.
Well, if I had any certainty in my job (I work in a Government Department and we're just waiting to hear where and how hard the axe will fall) I too might be making one or two quick purchases via respected retailers.
As it is, I'm saving every penny against the possibility of the axe falling in my direction.
just stop buying stuff,if we did the same with petrol things would chang e but knowone will take the risk, look how the frech have done things,no ******
