I just ordered a R6Mii this morning. Do i really need a V90 card? Ive read that unless i am doing serious video work or continuous shots that a V30 will work just fine. Anyone have a R6 and use a V30?

I only use a V30 sandisk memory card with a 128GB memory size . More important is the mb/s speed which should be mentioned in the handbook. Tthe one I use is 200mb/s for both my cameras and my camcorder. Warning do not buy from Amazon but from a main retailer

Of course you can use a slower card, it just restricts your shooting frame rate. Whether that poses you a problem will only really be revealed in use.

The problem with a slower card it can cause "buffering". That is the camera waiting for the card to finishing loading data and crating space to accept the next photo/video. Typically when your machine gunning shots in quick successions Buffering may occure. this is why I suggest 200mb/s

For some people the read speed is important I.e how long it takes to transfer from card to computer. It’s one thing to transfer an 8GB slow card and another day to transfer a 128Gb slow card!! :)

faster is always better and may remain useful after upgrade. V30 will be passable for basic work for sure. V60 gen II is just a small step up in price so that is an obvious choice. They work pretty much just fine. V90 will improve buffer clearing for those long bursts at 20fps if you are into that sort of thing. R6mkII has reduced buffer over mk1 if I am not mistaken/

V30 means minimum write speed is 30mbps which is slow in today’s terms. V90 is 90 mbps..They often advertise as 200mbps etc but that is at maximum write speed which does not sustain.

For video you would be better off with the V90 card. For photo the buffer will clear quicker on the V90 card. Read speed will likely be a lot quicker as well with the V90 card so less time to drag the files on to your computer.

Mine is a different camera to yours an R5 but I have a mixture of V30 , 60 and 90 SD cards and shooting wildlife have never had buffering issues with any of them, I still bought V90 cards when I needed some more for a trip as to be honest there wasn’t a lot of difference in the price
Compared to the cost of the camera the cost of SD cards isn’t that much
