hi all,
If my lens is a sigma 17-70mm f2.8 - 4.5, does this meen my maximum/ Minimum aperture range is 2.8-4.5.

The reason I ask is that i want to use it to take macro shots.

Apologies for he noob question but I keep reading about people taking photos with an aperture of f8 or f10 and I havent seen any lenses that go that far.....

the F2.8-4.5 is the widest aperture that the lens will go to, 2.8 will be at 17mm, and 4.5 will be at 70mm, however, that won't affect the focusing distance, which is what you need for macro shots.

The lens will probably go up to F22 or something in that reigon, the 2.8/4.5 simply refers to the widest setting :)

EDIT: The minimum aperture is F22 on that lens and the minimum focusing distance at 20cm

May I suggest that you take your camera OFF Auto and use manual or at least aperture priority? This way you will get to know the effect of apertures and shutter speeds better.
