Hi,

I have UV filters for some of my lenses and not for another. I do not seem to see a vast amount of difference with using one compared to not. I have also seen a number of for and against arguments for using them.

I understand that they offer protection for a lens, however just wondered if anyone had any particular strong views on other benefits.

Personally, I leave them on 90% of the time, but i mostly take mine out climbing where there's lots of chalk dust, and the general dirt of the great outdoors and I'm not overly precious with my camera (leaving it on a coat in a pile of stuff for example).

I'll always take it off for night photos as I think this is when it can cause the most visual artefacts, and if I was doing a specific shoot, I'd remove it for maximum IQ.
