I know it isn't strictly necessary but I want to keep a UV filter on my lens permanently. Excuse my obvious ignorance, but are there different UV filters for black and white photography?

All UV filters are clear, and with landscape photography can help to minimize haze you sometimes get when shooting at higher altitudes as well as offering protection for your lens, and because they are clear filters they don't require any additional exposure to compensate.

I shoot mainly black & white landscapes, and I would prefer to leave a yellow filter on rather than UV as it helps to highlight the clouds against a blue sky. I only ever change to orange or red for a stronger effect.
 
As above, its probably better to keep a yellow or yellow-green filter on your lens permanently rather than a UV filter if shooting B&W as it adds some contrast and stops the photos from looking 'flat'.
 
Thanks very much for that advice. Any particular recommendations for the yellow filter?

Just a straight yellow filter will be fine - their usually labelled YA2 or Y2 or something like that,.
