Using Tokina 11-16mm on FX camera?

Yes
So a DX lens won't cover an FX sensor. But does the coverage stop exactly at the 1.5 crop area or does it stretch a bit beyond?

So if I use the 11-16mm Tokina lens on an FX camera then could an extra 1mm or so focal length be squeezed out?

This would rely on the FX camera being set to work in FX mode when the DX lens is fitted. I'm not sure if that's possible? Maybe when the FX camera detects the DX lens it automatically switches to DX mode with no possibility of overwriting that?

What I'm essentially wondering is if I can squeeze an extra mm out of the Tokina lens when I finally upgrade to a fullframe camera :)

NOT from the Tokina lens but the Sigma 10-20 on a D700.

I would expect similar results from the Tokina (but I could be wrong!)

Thanks to Yv for the brief loan of the Sigma a few years ago.

Hmmm... The 10mm image didn't seem to want to show (tried twice). It seems to be working now though!

Personally I would see if you can buy the lenses first then upgrade the camera.

Yes the Tokina 11-16mm can be used on a FX sensor when set to 16mm, the corners are slightly softer, but the image is still useable

My experience (on 1Ds) - there is a tiny bit of black in the corners even at 16mm. You can crop that out. 12-24mm on the other hand can be used comfortably in 18-24mm range.
