Hi

I've purchased a 600D and was wondering if I need a cable or if my camera will be able to do off camera flash wirelessly? Will be using it mainly for nightclub photography now and want the flash to be off camera so I can get different lighting instead of the same flash on camera look!

Cheers.

The EOS 600D feature an integrated Speedlite Transmitter. the built-in flash can control multiple off-camera Speedlite flashes

what flash gun(s) do you have

doesn't that use the onboard flash to send pulses to the remote flash?
it's not RF as far as I know.

some alternatives are either the YN STE2 transmitter (or the original of course)
or simply an cable with an off camera hot shoe
full control and easy to use.
but yes, what flash do you have?

@DizMatt - who said it was RF? The OP just wants off camera flash.

You can use the 600D onboard to fire your flash remotely, and still use full ETTL, but if you're in very close, or photographing something very reflective, the the onboard will show in the exposure too. If you're in a nightclub though the bright flashing lights may well make this rather hit and miss.

You could also just use an ETTL lead from your hotshoe to the flash - cheap, no batteries to run out, and chances are for nightclub photography you're going to be hand holding both anyway rather than setting up light stands etc?

The last option is an RF transmitter, but I imagine you'll want to keep ETTL (or at least have it as an option) for "run and gun" nightclub work? If so then an ETTL RF trigger will be expensive, if not then cheap YN or Ojecoco triggers will do the job for you.

Cool, will look into getting a cord. Any idea where to get one from? Did a quick google and they seem to cost a lot for what they are.

Personally I'd look at buying something like PixelKings. Radio and ETTL.

They look pretty nice but I looked on ebay and I'm looking at spending £100. :( I understand this is probably a good deal for these but after spending over £1300 on new Canon kit comin from Nikon I realy don't have that much spare cash lying around. :(

Cheers, that looks a bit more ideal. Can upgrade to the wireless triggers when I have the money.

Yeah, I have a mix of ETTL optical master/slave flashes, dumb optical triggers, radio triggers and a cord .. it's good to have options

Do you know if that cord will work with the 430EX II? It says it works with the 430EX, and the 580EX II but no mention of the 430EX II. :bonk:
