Hello

I've been using a Nikon D60 for nearly two years. I feel now that I'd like to upgrade, I've thought about the D90 but fear I would outgrow that too quickly. Is the D90 a step up enough or should I save a bit longer? If so what should I aim towards? What Nikons do you use and what do you make of them? I am finding the lack of auto bracketing on the D60 a bit of a pain and am fed up of rubbish looking skies when I could cheat with bracketing!

The D90 is a very big step up and realistically I cant imagine that anyone can want much more in an enthusiasts camera. Benefits include:

- autobracketing
- 4.5 fps drive
- better high ISO performance
- Way better focussing
- Auto ISO
- built in focus motor
- easier access to most controls
- live view (and video if you must)
- High resolution screen
-and much more

That said, the D7000 appears to be a big step up from the D90......

Thanks Dave, I hoped you'd tell me that as that means I can upgrade sooner if I aim for a D90. I really want autobracketing, live view would be handy. The problem with this hobby is I always want more things! £££ I want more lenses and speedlights!!

I went from D60 to D90, couldn't believe the difference in quality, high ISO and overall performance.

I went from a D40 to D90 a few years ago. Found it very simple, just more buttons to use really. See no reason NOT to upgrade, unless you use on AUTO all the time!

I'm in the same boat, I am fed up of always having to use exposure correction to avoid burn out on my D60. The metering of the D60 is terrible, far inferior to that on the little Fuji I upgraded from. One of my first posts on this site was "Is the D60 a bit crap?". After a year of getting to know it I can now answerer this question, at least from my perspective. The answerer is yes, it definately is a bit crap.

That said, I love the ergonomics, the build quality, menu system and the lightweight - so much so that I'm willing to give Nikon another go, the D3100 is due out soon. On the other hand for just a little bit more the Canon 550D is very tempting.

Cant really say I've found that, My D60 produces some very good results and is nice and light when you you dont want to drag a big camera about....The focussing I have found lags behind though

Thank you for the feedback, it is most helpful. I've been reading reviews but it's good to hear views of real camera users. cambsno, no certainly don't go round using auto all the time:-))
