Using my outside space as an office!

People who conduct their business on their mobile phones in public really annoy me, yes we have all come across them, loud mouthed in cafes, and on public transport.
We were in Bourton on the Water today, a lovely spot in the Cotswolds, sitting down enjoying the sunshine by the water and this chap,

decides to stroll back and forwards invading my space by conducting his business on his mobile in a voice loud enough for anyone within 100 yards to hear. I was getting more and more annoyed by this chap and my better half who knows me very well could see this, she knew what I had in mind and that was to go over to him and ask him to either keep his voice down or kindly go and conduct his business elsewhere. I was so close to doing just that despite her saying "come on lets just go" when after about 20 minutes he had concluded his business deal or whatever and said cheerio.

The first time I ever saw/heard someone using a mobile phone was in a supermarket. Big loud voice (didn't really need phone) 'Oh yars, old boy, come on over to the yacht for some fizz' Come to think of it - he looks a bit like your chap at Bourton-on-the-Water. He must've moved his boat from Lymington, then Hope he grounded it.

I don't have a mobile phone and I just don't see the point really, we all did without before. Ok they nay be of use in an emergency, but why do people spend so much time on them.
Maybe I'm the unsociable one then. :lol

The sooner people realise you do not have to speak loudly in a mobile phone the better. I find that just by speaking normally as if you were speaking to the next person is loud enough to be heard on the other end.

That reminds me of a time I was photographing a street in Liverpool where my mum grew up and a kid on a bike pulled up and said "oi mister, why you taking pictures of our mosque?". I looked him in the eyes and said "haven't you heard of MI5?". You should have seen him scarper!! (one of my wicked moments ).

That said, why didn't you just walk up and down with him taking photo's? Had he complained i'd have said it was a public street and i was as free to annoy him with my camera as he was to annoy me with his mobile.

Hepburn, that would have been an excellent way to deal with the situation, I wished I had thought of that at the time but I hope next time someone annoys me in a similar manner I have my camera with me.

Ah, the benefits of hindsight eh? Ever watched Dom Joley's the complainers? A great source of inspiration for dealing with situations like that one

they are the grown up version of the boy racer who believes that because he likes listening to talent-free dance music at excessive volume in his car, he should wind the window down and let everyone else hear it as well!

The first mobile phone I saw was on a trip to London over with my wife and her boss who was the manager of a big posh hotel. It was, through his connections, a freebie stay at the Ritz, wow that was some place.
Anyway he always carried this medium sized suitcase around with him and I never thought much of it until I heard the sound of a bog standard telephone ring coming from within, He promptly opened it to reveal what was an ordinary black hand piece on a coiled cord connected to the rest of it and the dialer in the case.
IIRC this was over 20 years ago.

At the end of the day, this guy has as much right to use his phone in public as you do your camera. As much as it may have annoyed you, there ain't much you can do about it.

I'm not saying he's right, but should you have hassled him, you would have definitely been in the wrong.

Now, standing there taking pictures of him may have been a good way to deal with it, but maybe he needed to his business outside of the office ??

I agree, it was his space as well as mine but I am sure you can picture the setting we had if you have ever been to Bourton on the Water on a sunny day.
As for just wanting to be outside his office, he went back to his car in the public car park after his business deal was concluded in public.
I was just annoyed at the time, as you can well imagine, you are quite right.

Ah well, being in sales/business for many years I can quite understand him. It may sound strange, but even in the office if I'm working on something important that I need to "close", I will often stand, even move around while on the phone. Have you never seen "The Boiler Room"

I can understand the annoyance but not sure if I would have done anything if it was only me that was being annoyed. If there were others that were disturbed and they might be less likely to complain I might have stepped in. As has been said, he broke no laws but he was perhaps not the best mannered.
